What a beautiful experience the Zafarana and Lipuma Families had, as they visited Polizzi Generosa, the land of their ancestors, in June 2007! They came from all over the United States in search of their roots. They had a splendid time during their two-day visit, which included a meeting with the Mayor,Dr. Salvatore Glorioso, and visits to the Library, the Museum, the various churches and also the Cemetery. A family dinner at Ristorante Itria and the celebration of the Mass by the Pastor, Don Calogero Cerami, concluded the festivities. The presence, assistance and the warm welcome by the relatives added a personal touch to their visit, which was videotaped by the famous photographer, Luciano Schimmenti. Everyone had also a great time shopping, tasting the local pastry and walking through the streets of town. Peggy Zafarana masterfully organized the tour and presented the mayor with a Hewlet-Packard Workstation Computer to be used by the Cultural Association, Townhall and other groups. Professor Mario Macaluso, a native of Polizzi, accompanied the group as cultural advisor and also interpreter. Peggy Zafarana and Professor Macaluso wish to thank the Mayor, the Pastor, Dr. and Mrs.Alfino Zafarana, Prof. Giuseppina Zafarana, and her husband, Mr. Aldo Cianci, her cousisn who came to celebrate, Mr. Luciano Schimmenti, and his wife Silvana, who patiently kept the jewelry store open, Renato and Giuseppina from Ristorante Itria and all those who helped make the Zafarana-Lipuma's sentimental visit to Polizzi Generosa a wonderful and unforgettable event in their lives. Long live Polizzi Generosa!
